Ruled by The Word

John 12:44-50 ESV

"I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness." (John 12:46)

Jesus came to save the lost and to heal the blind. As a child, your mom might have told you that your actions have consequences. She may have also reminded you not to act foolishly or even quoted James 4:17, "so whoever knows to do right and fails to do it, for him it is sin."  Whatever words or methods your parents used to grab your attention, their purpose was to save you. Similarly to our earthly parents, God the Father does not wish for anyone to perish but has given us the light (Jesus), so that we may listen to the word, believe it, and obey it. Just like those who reject the word of God will be ruled by the word, we as believers must also rule ourselves in accordance to the word.

But what does it mean that the word judges unbelievers? Well, the unbeliever will face the judgment for every bit of scripture he has ever read or heard. The very word that he rejects becomes his judge! Why? Because the written word points to the living word, Jesus Christ (John 1:14). As we have studied these 12 chapters in the Gospel of John, we have seen Jesus Christ in His life, His ministry, His miracles, His message, and His desire to save the lostWe have considered the evidence and hopefully have come to the conviction that Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

Have you trusted him and received everlasting life?

"For God so love the world that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life!" (John 3:16)
